Carnac: the story of the “Queen of Morbihan
Carnac is thought to have always been alive, even if there are no traces of the Paleolithic period. Only monuments from the Neolithic period have survived the passage of time. Today, over 150 archaeological sites make the town famous, and its museum is perfect for history buffs and discovery enthusiasts. The town still retains vestiges of its history with its 17th-century parish church and the 19ᵉ-century Chapelle de la Congrégation. As you make your way through the town, you’ll find discovery after discovery: fountains, washhouses… will punctuate your path.
Carnac, a multi-faceted town
Ideally located 45 minutes from Ploemeur, between the Gulf of Morbihan and the Quiberon peninsula, the town of Carnac is renowned for its sandy beaches and menhirs. Here you can discover the world-famous menhir alignments, listed as a historic monument since 1889. The Menec and Kermario sites alone contain almost 300 menhirs spread over almost 4 km. The town is also renowned for its thalassotherapy and spa centers. In fact, it is France’s first 100% organic Thalasso. It’s hard to discover Carnac without taking advantage of one of the town’s 5 white-sand beaches, and its hiking trails.
