The best fishing spots in Ploemeur
Looking for a fun, family-friendly activity? Then why not go fishing from your campsite in Ploemeur? Accessible almost all year round, this traditional Brittany pastime is perfect for sharing an unforgettable moment during your Morbihan vacation. Put on your boots, grab your landing net and head for the beaches of Ploemeur for a fishing session.
Fort-Bloqué beach
To the west of Ploemeur, this vast stretch of fine sand is ideal for shore fishing! Here, at low tide, you’ll find plenty of shellfish, including cockles, razor clams and shrimp. But be sure to check the tide calendar and times. The water rises very quickly, and you could become trapped on the fort.
Kerroch beach
A true paradise for anglers in Morbihan. A small stretch of fine sand, Kerroch beach is framed by rocky areas where numerous shellfish and crustaceans hide. At low tide, crevices and basins full of shrimps, crabs and periwinkles are revealed. And in the sandy zone, you’ll find clams and cockles.
L’Anse du Stole
The urban beach of Anse du Stole, surrounded by rocks, stretches for 600 m in the Morbihan region. At low tide, children can easily collect shellfish, such as clams and cockles, and flush out shrimps between the rocks. Please note, however, that this coastline is very popular with anglers. Be sure to follow local regulations (information available from Affaires Maritimes) and fish responsibly.
Courégant beach
This charming sandy beach is less well known than the Fort-Bloqué beach, but it’s a great place to go fishing in Ploemeur. Its sandy and rocky coastline is home to many species. In the puddles and under the rocks, you’ll find periwinkles, shrimps and crabs. Be careful on the rocks, which can be slippery.
Our advice for a rational management of fishing at Ploemeur in Brittany
Before setting out on your adventure, find out about the regulations governing shore fishing in Morbihan. To catch shellfish, you must respect a minimum size and number of specimens. Depending on the species of shellfish and the area in which they are found, these rules may vary. For example, while recreational fishing for cockles and clams is authorized all year round, the opening date for shellfishing for scallops is October 1st.
To help you, consult your tourist office or download the recommendations from the Regional Council. Take a ruler with you to take measurements. For certain species, such as scallops, only the use of a landing net is authorized. Be respectful of the coastline and its ecosystem by putting stones back in place and taking care not to damage the eelgrass beds that serve as nurseries for many marine species.
You also need to take a few safety precautions. Before you leave, check and even download the calendar and tidal coefficients. Check the weather and water quality. And don’t forget any bans or closed seasons in your fishing area. Wear appropriate clothing and non-slip shoes to limit the risk of injury. Let your friends and family know where you’re going to fish – the area you plan to fish, the exact beach where you’re going to fish on foot in Ploemeur – and make sure you have a means of communication or signposting.
The Morbihan coastline offers some excellent areas for fishing on foot in Ploemeur. With family, friends or on your own, discover all the hidden treasures at low tide, as long as you respect the regulations governing this leisure activity and preserve the ecosystem. Brittany and its maritime areas are real treasures for fishermen and for those who like their feet in the water!
