Lorient, a city turned towards the sea.
Lorient is a city steeped in history, which was completely destroyed during the Second World War. Completely rebuilt over a period of 20 years along the lines of the pre-war plan, it is one of the few rebuilt towns to have been awarded the “Pays et Villes d’art et d’histoire” label. The town has 4 buildings protected under the law on historic monuments, including one classified as a historic monument: the two pavilions of the Gabriel Hotel.
The first ship was built in 1667 by the Compagnie des Indes. Today, Lorient has 6 harbors: fishing (the 2ᵉ in France), yachting, military, commercial and passenger, not forgetting the former submarine base which integrates a Pôle Course au large.
